How to prepare for your first KonMari® Tidying Lesson
Horay! Lime so glad you are here & have taken the first step in your tidying journey. In order to maximise our time together, it helps to do some preparation in advance of my visit.
Reduce Distractions
In order to remain focussed, please ensure those you love know that you are un-available during the lesson time. Work, children, pets & your phone can all throw you off your game. It is important to dedicate this time without distraction.
Don’t tidy
Tempting as it may be, please do not tidy ahead of time! It’s important for me to see the space in it’s current condition before we jump in to the KonMari Method® of tidying.
Laundry
If possible, please endeavour to finish all your own laundry. To ensure that nothing is missed during the initial joy-checking process, please wash all your clothes & collect any dry-cleaning.
Personal Items
Please set aside any personal items. If there are any items in your home that are delicate or private that you do not feel comfortable handling in front of me, please take the time to put these away. You will be able to deal with these yourself later on in the process as you strengthen your joy-checking skills.
Visualise your ideal lifestyle
Understanding your vision is a critical part of the method & we will come back to this throughout the journey.
What is your ideal lifestyle & living environment?
To help you, try to create something visual such as a board on Pinterest or a mood board using magazine cuttings. Perhaps write a list if you prefer.
What is your reason for tidying? How would your home look & feel once you have finished your tidying festival? How would your life change if your home was clutter free? What would you spend your time & energy on if you didn’t have to deal with your clutter? There will be a different answer for everyone.
Please take time to work & reflect on this, ready for our discussion in the first lesson.
Collect boxes
When it comes to storage, we try to make use of whatever you have at home. Re-purposing existing storage is at the heart of the philosophy, so please do not rush out & buy new storage items. Gather together any shoe boxes/small boxes you have around the house & sometimes larger boxes can be useful too.
Client Agreement
Please read through, sign & return the Client Agreement in advance of our first lesson.
Basic Items to have on hand
Bin bags & a damp cloth.
Now relax & get ready to embrace joy!
